Unfortunately, our campaign ended with a sudden stop. Invested time in last few sessions just didn’t pay off with fun, and that is the main reason to play. There’s many reasons why we couldn’t pull more fun out of the game. We all want to play D&D but obviously we need to make some changes. I don’t like any unfinished business, so the least I should do is to detect causes of the failure.
DM
I’m not an experienced dungeon master and with time available and current pace I probably won’t ever be. I think I spent too much time creating a game instead of creating the fun. Also, I kept the whole campaign for myself so the players never got enough information about the world they play in.
Next campaign must be collaborative creation and much more open to new ideas.
Players
This campaign was the first tabletop RPG for most players. It is understandable that there was much misconception about what the character could or should do.
Setting
Goal of the setting was to be expandable in any direction, depending on what we would find interesting. Problem is that any direction soon led to no direction at all.
Characters
Characters were too generic. We started playing with empty characters hoping that we can fill the holes along the way. Unfortunately, without a real purpose in the world characters stayed bleak and without some motivation character development was non-existent.
Story
Writing a good story is hard. That’s all.
