Ralrod Chenall, the city guard leader filled them with the details about the theft. Two guards who were on the duty in the night of the theft, Ormer and Asban, were fired and they now live as fisherman. Ormer was on duty before midnight and Asban replaced him after the midnight. At dawn, Asban noticed that plate is missing and alerted the mayor. Mayor called him and they investigated the site and surroundings but nothing was found.
Party went to the coast and found Ormer. He told them what they already knew. Asban told them he saw the opened sarcophagus which should be closed and that he told that to the mayor.
Then they went to the mayor and asked him about the events. He told them the same story but nothing about the sarcophagus. When Irgon asked him about it, mayor told them that he never saw it opened. Kriv noticed that mayor is hiding something.
They returned to the guardhouse and told Ralrod about the sarcophagus. He said he also didn’t see it opened. Back to the Asban, he insisted that he told the mayor about the opened sarcophagus. Now Ralrod is suspicious about the mayor. He also recalled that mayor wanted Incanus’ plate to replace the missing piece but Incanus didn’t give it to him.
Incanus joined them to make a further decisions. They agreed that mayor is suspicious but of course, they can’t just arrest the mayor without some heavy evidence. They decided to observe the mayor’s house for some time.
Vani made a post near the city hall and watched. And watched. Mayor was at he city hall whole day and went home later in the evening. Vani relocated her post near the mayor’s house and continued to observe. Later, near midnight, somebody left the house, probably a servant. Vani followed him to the marketplace and saw him throw something in some beggar’s box, but that wasn’t a coin. She noticed that servant dropped some kind of an envelope.
Servant continued to the docks but beggar soon stood up and entered the “Three goblin’s” inn. Vani followed him and saw him sitting at the table in the corner. Vani found a seat behind the beggar so she could observe him unnoticed. Half an hour later, three man who just entered the tavern, sat with the beggar. They’ve put some gold pieces on the table and beggar gave them the envelope. Vani decided it is a good time to call the others. She left the tavern and summoned the rest of the party. As they approached, they saw the three man leaving the tavern. They followed them outside the city and to the long wall which divides the island.
Bellow the wall
Different faces are carved into the wall. Three men pushed the noses on three faces and one plate opened. They quickly disappeared and plate closed behind them. Kriv remembered the combination and tried to push the same faces. They heard a click sound and the plate opened again.
They entered into a descending corridor. This place was very old. Stone wall was overgrown with moss but one torch was lit and provided enough light. They continued down the corridor which widened into a cavern. In the middle of the cavern, blocking their path was a tall, wooden fence. Clearly, it was put here as a line of defense. Three heads emerged from behind the fence and started firing crossbow bolts at them.
At first, party tried to hit the enemies with ranged attacks but they couldn’t hit anything over the fence. Enemies had perfect cover while party stood in the clear. Trixie tried to attack the enemies over the wall with his spiked chain but got hit with a halberd. When they started to think about retreating, Trixie finally managed to climb on the wall. Vani also jumped over the fence and Kriv helped Irgon to climb also. Now they were even and some real fighting began. Trixie showed his skills and commanded the battle. Irgon and Kriv started to cooperate: Kriv stayed bellow and prepared his spear while Irgon tried to throw enemy over the fence. He succeeded and one enemy soon hanged on the spear and Kriv finished him with a sword. Then Vani gave the hand to the Kriv and pulled him up, she jumped down and at the same time stabbed one foe and Kriv finished him when he got up. Irgon crushed the last foe and the battle was over.
On one body they found the letter:
To Black one:
Some blokes started to investigate the plates and are asking questions. They are the ones who won the tournament. Even worse, they hang with Incanus and they could be unpleasant.
Do you have any suggestion?
